From a wedding...blue ink to match!

Crane's escort card envelopes, in ecru or in white are popular choices.  A small card goes inside telling your guest the table number or name where he or she is seated.  These inner cards can have your monogram or a small design featured on them, if you wish. Many other styles, including tent cards, are available from stationers and printers.  

I stock both Crane's escort and place cards in white and ecru as well as Fabriano Medieovalis, priced at retail.  Do not just think in terms of 'plain' stationery.  Mardi's beach wedding (below) featured nametags attached with raffia tied to sand dollars!
